Amazon S3 Tables expand to two new AWS Regions
Amazon S3 Tables, featuring built-in Apache Iceberg support for data lakes, are now available in the Asia Pacific (Taipei) and Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Regions. This expansion allows more users to benefit from streamlined tabular data storage, automatic table maintenance for cost and query optimization, and broad engine compatibility. S3 Tables also integrate with Intelligent-Tiering for automated cost management based on access patterns. The feature is now accessible in these additional regions, though users should consult the documentation for a full list of supported locations.

- S3 Tables now available in Asia Pacific (Taipei) and New Zealand Regions
Amazon S3 Tables, which offer built-in Apache Iceberg support for object storage, have been launched in the Asia Pacific (Taipei) and Asia Pacific (New Zealand) AWS Regions. This enables users in these regions to leverage S3 Tables for efficient and cost-optimized tabular data storage in data lakes.
Enhancements (3) ›
- Automatic table maintenance optimizes query efficiency and storage costs
S3 Tables perform continual table maintenance to optimize query performance and reduce storage expenses. This feature helps manage data lake growth and evolution automatically.
- Apache Iceberg standard ensures broad query engine compatibility
By supporting the Apache Iceberg standard, S3 Tables allow data to be easily queried by both AWS and third-party engines. This enhances flexibility for data analysis workloads.
- Intelligent-Tiering automates cost management
S3 Tables integrate with the Intelligent-Tiering storage class to automatically manage costs based on data access patterns. This is achieved without impacting performance or requiring additional operational overhead.
