Features (2)
  • User-based model policy targeting for enterprise teams

GitHub Enterprise customers with Copilot Business or Enterprise licenses can now use user-based model policy targeting. This feature allows AI administrators to set a baseline of models for the entire enterprise and then grant additional models to specific enterprise teams for tailored access.

  • Finer-grained model access control

This feature provides finer-grained, user-based control over model access that maps to roles, training levels, or functions, moving beyond historical organization-level management. Over time, additional controls will be added to the team level for greater precision.

Enhancements (1)
  • Enterprise-level model policy settings

At the enterprise level, models can be set to 'Enabled' (available to all), 'Disabled' (not available to any), or 'Optional' (available to assign to enterprise teams). Model access evaluates using a least-restrictive strategy.

Maintenance (1)
  • Preparation for enterprise teams mode

Before enabling enterprise teams mode, administrators can start creating enterprise teams and assigning 'Optional' models to them. This allows preparation of model-to-user assignments similar to previous organization delegation methods.

Notes (2)
  • Public preview opt-in and rollout

This public preview is rolling out gradually, with most enterprise customers gaining access to the preview opt-in on August 3rd. Users can opt into the preview by enabling the Enterprise teams mode toggle found in the Copilot page under “Models”.

  • Model policies for users in multiple enterprises

For enterprises not using Enterprise Managed Users, users with licenses from multiple enterprises will only have model policies from their primary enterprise apply when using a Copilot license assigned from that enterprise. Other enterprises' restrictions will not apply.
