EC2 surfaces public SSM parameters for AMIs
Amazon EC2 now includes public SSM Parameter Store parameters directly within the metadata of public AMIs. This change simplifies the discovery and use of these parameters, allowing engineers to easily reference the latest AMI versions in configurations. This feature is available at no additional cost across all AWS regions.

Amazon EC2 now surfaces the Systems Manager (SSM) Parameter Store parameters associated with public AMIs directly in the AMI metadata when describing a public AMI. This provides an easy way to discover and reference the latest AMI version for infrastructure configurations.

Previously, finding the SSM parameter for a public AMI required manual searching. The new integration allows using the SSM parameter as an alias that always resolves to the latest AMI version, simplifying updates across infrastructure.
