CloudWatch pipelines adds OpenTelemetry metric processing and enrichment
Amazon CloudWatch pipelines now supports processing and enriching OpenTelemetry metrics during ingestion, eliminating the need for custom processing layers. This feature allows users to centrally apply metric transformations, add business context, reduce storage costs by stripping high-cardinality labels, and enforce naming conventions. The OTel metric processing is available in all supported AWS Regions at no additional cost beyond standard ingestion pricing.

CloudWatch pipelines now allows processing and enrichment of OpenTelemetry (OTel) metrics during ingestion, simplifying data transformation for users. This new capability enables metric transformations, such as adding business context, stripping high-cardinality labels, and renaming metrics, directly within the ingestion path without requiring new infrastructure. The processing is applied transparently to matched metrics, with no changes needed to application instrumentation.
