SageMaker Unified Studio adds business metadata and governance to IAM domains
Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio now supports business context, metadata, and data governance for IAM-based domains. This allows customers to enrich AWS Glue Data Catalog tables with business names, descriptions, and documentation, potentially using AI for automatic generation. The update aims to improve data discovery and access management for data engineers, analysts, and scientists across the organization. These capabilities are now available in all supported AWS Regions.

SageMaker Unified Studio now supports business context, metadata, and data governance in IAM-based domains, enabling enrichment of AWS Glue Data Catalog tables with business names, descriptions, and READMEs.
- Automate metadata generation and business glossaries
Customers can leverage AI-generated metadata for automatic business name and description creation, and establish business glossaries for consistent organizational terminology.
- Define structured metadata forms and manage access
Metadata form templates can be created to capture structured attributes like data classification and ownership, facilitating data discovery and enabling streamlined access requests through subscriptions.

- Direct access management and approvals within SageMaker
Administrators can directly grant table access within SageMaker Unified Studio or approve requests, which then automatically provision AWS Lake Formation permissions to the project.
