Amazon EMR Serverless supports live configuration updates
Amazon EMR Serverless now allows live updates to key application configurations like maximum capacity and custom images without requiring application restarts. This change reduces operational overhead and allows for immediate responses to changing demands or image updates. The feature is available for all EMR releases and regions where EMR Serverless is supported.

Amazon EMR Serverless now supports live updates to maximum capacity and custom image settings without stopping and restarting applications. New workloads will automatically use the updated configurations, while existing workloads continue unaffected.

Previously, configuration changes required stopping, modifying, and restarting EMR Serverless applications, necessitating maintenance windows and blocking job submissions. The new live update capability reduces this overhead and enables immediate response to workload demands or image updates.
